ERC Funding in Quantum Science

This special topic will take place on 20 August 2025

Wednesday’s program is dedicated to Quantum Science, celebrating UNESCO’s International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. An exciting lineup of speakers from across the broad field of quantum physics has been assembled in collaboration with the Association of ERC Grantees (AERG), highlighting the essential contributions of the European Research Council (ERC) in enabling frontier, curiosity-driven, bottom-up research.

We are truly honored to welcome Serge Haroche, recipient of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics.

All six speakers are ERC grantees, including Nobel Laureate Serge Haroche, who will present an AERG “Science and Society Seminar”, followed by a panel discussion; "From blue sky research to quantum technologies".

Confirmed speakers

  • Francesca Ferlaino (Austrian Academy of Sciences): When Crystals Flow: The Emergence of Supersolid Quantum States
  • Yiwen Chu (ETH Zurich): A mechanical qubit
  • Shahal Ilani (Weizmann Institute of Science): The Quantum Twisting Microscope: Visualizing Waves in Quantum Matter
  • Jaksa Vucicevic (Institute of Physics Belgrade): Models and methods in the study of high-temperature superconductivity
  • Dragan Mihailović (Jozef Stefan Institute): Nonequilibrium quantum self-assembly
  • Serge Haroche (Collège de France): The laser in quantum science
