Welcome to the Joint Annual Meeting of ÖPG and SPS 2025

Every two years, the Austrian Physical Society (ÖPG) and the Swiss Physical Society (SPG) organize a joint conference. The next meeting will take place at the University of Vienna from August 18 to 22, 2025.

The conference will open this year on Monday, 18 August with several satellite events. The morning is dedicated to an Energy Day. Anna Fontcuberta i Morral, newly elected president of EPFL, will give a plenary talk there.

In the afternoon we will continue with the 4th edition of the Women in Physics Career Symposium, with plenary speaker Francesca Primas, ESO, and a symposium acknowledging Wolfgang Pauli and Erwin Schrödinger: 100 years of Quantum Physics. The General Assemblies of both societies will follow, and an evening talk given by Thomas Feurer, Universität Bern, currently Managing Director of the European XFEL GmbH, will close the day. A second public lecture by Claus Beisbart, Universität Bern, is scheduled on Tuesday evening.

From Tuesday to Friday, renowned speakers will present the latest advancements across various research fields during the plenary sessions, while parallel sessions will enable in-depth discussions on several specialized topics. This year, the Condensed Matter sessions are organized in collaboration with our Central European colleagues (CMinCE), with the hope that this partnership will become a lasting tradition. A poster session on Wednesday will complement the scientific program, alongside a special symposium on ERC Funding in Quantum Science, which is interwoven with Wednesday’s agenda.

The Swiss Institute for Particle Physics (CHIPP), the SFB BeyondC and the Association of ERC Grantees (AERG) will again contribute to the program. Thanks to all these collaborations, our annual meeting will offer again an exciting program, covering latest advancements of physics in a wide range of fields at its best.
